Introduction of Walgreens
The second-largest pharmacy store chain in the US is run by an American firm called Walgreens, after CVS Health. It focuses on providing photo services, health and wellness items, and information about health. Its corporate headquarters are in Deerfield, Illinois, a Chicago suburb, where it was established in 1901.
Walgreens and the Swiss-based Alliance Boots amalgamated on December 31 to create a new holding company, Walgreens Boots Alliance. The new business retained its Deerfield headquarters and trades on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol WBA. Walgreens was made a subsidiary of this business. A federal jury concluded that the firm “substantially contributed to” the opioid crisis.
Walgreens will not sell abortion pills
In spite of the fact that abortion is currently legal in Alaska, Iowa, Kansas, and Montana, Walgreens will not sell abortion pills in those states. Walgreens is being cautious due to the strong legal and political pressure from the anti-abortion movement.
FDA Decision
However, the FDA’s decision caught the attention of 20 Republican state attorneys general, who threatened the drugstore chain with legal action in a letter sent on February 1. According to Engerman, Walgreens replied to each of them by agreeing not to distribute the medicine in their state.
“As we apply for approval to dispense mifepristone, we are taking into account the fact that this is a highly complex and constantly changing area of the law, according to Engerman, who said that Walgreens does not currently stock the medication.”
Walgreens protest conclusion
One of the larger pharmacies that has been the target of considerable pressure from pro-life advocates is Walgreens. Protesters erupted off the stage at its annual shareholder meeting in late January, bringing it to a dramatic conclusion. Days later, protesters from opposing sides of the argument attempted to drown each other out with megaphones at a CVS Pharmacy in Pittsburgh. Another demonstration broke out at the Chicago headquarters of Walgreens on February 14.
