After battling a man who is accused of stabbing its owner with a screwdriver, a police dog allegedly saved its owner’s life.
Just before two in the morning on Thursday, South Australian Police were called to the Adelaide suburb of Fenton after receiving complaints of two individuals reportedly attempting to break into cars and residences.

Police were informed that a second suspect, a 42-year-old man who was seen on Arnold Close Street, got into an SUV and drove to Noblet Street.
Just before 4am, an officer and his canine partner, Rusty, were on foot patrol on Noblet Street when they noticed a man riding an SUV through the apartment building’s yard.
The suspect allegedly pulled out a screwdriver and stabbed the officer in the hand after the officer challenged him. Rusty protected his handlers by attacking the attacker despite apparently trying several times to knife the dog and the cop.
After being detained, the 27-year-old from Findon was brought to the Royal Adelaide Hospital to receive treatment for dog bite wounds.
