Bob Huggins, the men’s basketball coach at West Virginia University who used a homophobic slur during an interview and was subsequently suspended and given a pay cut, was detained on Friday for DUI.
Huggins, 69, was allegedly operating a black SUV in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, according to the police. Pittsburgh police observed the car stopped in the centre of the road, impeding traffic, just before 8:30 o’clock. The car had a “flat and shredded tyre,” according to police, and the driver’s side door was ajar.
Huggins was able to be diverted off the road by Pittsburgh police officers, but when they noticed he was having problems driving the car, they stopped him and questioned him. Huggins failed the standard field sobriety tests that were administered.
He was taken to a different location for additional testing after being accused of DUI. Huggins was later let out from custody. Police did not specify a date or time for his appearance at a preliminary hearing.
