After a new video from the weekend that appears to show Morant holding a gun in a car during a friend’s Instagram Live video, the Memphis Grizzlies guard, who previously flashed a gun in an Instagram Live at a strip club in March and received an eight-game suspension, will likely face a harsher punishment this time.
Ja Morant Suspended Again
In a statement released on Sunday, the Grizzlies said that they had suspended Morant from all club operations while the league reviewed the fresh video. After losing to the Lakers in the first round of the playoffs, Memphis was eliminated from the competition last month.
Following the nightclub footage in March, the league punished Morant for eight games. In the statement announcing the ban, N.B.A. Commissioner Adam Silver referred to Morant’s “enormous following and influence” and characterised the gun incident as conduct harmful to the league. The N.B.A. claimed that when Morant posted the Instagram Live video early on March 4, he was “in an inebriated state.” Soon after, Morant entered a Florida counselling centre.
